Sociability is a disabled-led technology company empowering disabled people to find accessible places.
Their free, public platform – available on mobile and web – gives disabled people detailed and accurate accessibility information about local venues to decide for themselves whether it is suitably accessible or not.
This approach empowers choice, increases disabled representation in society and highlights the lived experience of disabled people as central to accessibility – instead of the basic legal minimums and compliance framework that has dominated to date. Sociability was born out of the Oxford Accessibility Project, a student project started in 2016 to crowdsource accessibility information for Oxford University colleges – and has since moved to London and scaled around the UK and to various cities internationally.
Sociability won £2000 funding from award sponsor Perspectum for their important work making everyday life more accessible for everyone in the Oxfordshire community and beyond.
